Ethics Policy

Mission statement

To provide Batesburg-Leesville with reliable, accessible coverage of local and state politics, governance, and civic affairs.

Editorial policies and practices

Neutrality

All published reporting must be neutral and free from ideological or personal bias. Our readers should gain a healthy understanding of all significant viewpoints on a contested issue, and feel our coverage gave a fair shake to all sides.

Editorial decisions will never be intended to benefit individual people, groups, or ideology. We will follow the principle articulated by New York Times publisher Adolph Ochs: to give the news impartially without fear or favor.

News reporting and opinion-based commentary will always be clearly differentiated.

Accuracy

Our published material must be factually correct, and we will issue corrections if published information is later found to have fallen short of this standard. If a reader believes we made a mistake, they can let us know by emailing corrections@twincityregister.com.

Openness

We believe in the American ideals of journalistic freedom and the free exchange of ideas. The opinion column is open to all thoughtful contributors, regardless of belief or persuasion. We will accept “letters to the editor” from all readers pursuant to our Community Standards guidelines.

In abiding by these principles, we will provide readers coverage and context not available elsewhere, informing them on the politics, governance, and civic affairs impacting their lives and community.
